"MOPEDEN. En svensk designhistoria" är i första hand en berättelse med avstamp i svenskt och tal, den epok då konsumentdesign blev en viktig del i det blomstrande folkhemsbygget.
Mopeden föddes genom en lagändring ; ett allemansfordon med avsikt att öka arbetarklassens rörlighet i samhället. Utvecklingen blev explosiv, från enkelt motoriserade cyklar till genomdesignade ”fartåk”. Industrin såg stora möjligheter i att varje år sälja nya modeller till en helt ny och köpstark kundkategori – tonåringarna!
Men tonåringarna var kräsna. Industrin anlitade därför industridesigners som Sixten Sason, Sigvard Bernadotte, Pelle Petterson och Björn Karlström för att skapa moderna mopeder. Mopeden må ha varit ett förprogrammerat fordon med en lagstadgad toppfart av 30 km/h - men inspirationen hämtades från amerikanska bilar, jetflyg och rymdraketer!
