Det är september och Daniel flyttar tillsammans med sin mor från Newark i New Jersey mot Reseda inom Los Angeles i Kalifornien. När Daniel hjälper mot att bära in grejor träffar han jämnåriga Freddy som bor i identisk hyreshus. Freddy frågar vad Daniel bör göra imorgon och bjuder med honom till ett fest vid stranden. Inne i lägenheten upptäcker mor att kranen är trasig och ber Daniel för att hitta vicevärden så för att den förmå lagas. Vicevärden visar sig vara ett äldre japan, Kesuke Miyagi, och Daniel kommer samt stör honom i hans vaktmästarkontor då han försöker fånga flugor med numeriskt värde ätpinnar. Vicevärden är uppenbarligen missnöjd ovan att bli störd från hyresgäster.

Nästa dag existerar Daniel tillsammans några jämnåriga killar samt spelar fotboll på stranden. Han lägger märke mot en blond tjej såsom tittar vid honom samt ler.

    The Karate Kid is a American martial artsdrama film written by Robert Mark Kamen and directed by John G. Avildsen. It is the first installment in the Karate Kid franchise, and stars Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue, and William Zabka.[3][4]The Karate Kid follows the story of Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), an Italian-American teenager from New Jersey who moves with his widowed mother to the Reseda neighborhood of Los Angeles. There, LaRusso encounters harassment from his new bullies, one of whom is Johnny Lawrence (Zabka), the ex-boyfriend of LaRusso's love interest, Ali Mills (Shue).
