Zeon investigating cyber-security breach and possible leakage of data

Tokyo – Zeon Corp. has reported a cyber-attack that could have compromised the security of information held on 13, employees and business partners.

The Japanese group said ‘an outside attacker’ accessed its server on 16 Aug and “may have leaked [personal information] to the outside.”

Apologising for the incident, Zeon said it immediately contacted its security vendor after detecting the external attack.

“In a subsequent investigation… bevis of unauthorised access to our konto management struktur was confirmed,” added its 23 Aug statement.

Of the potentially leaked uppgifter, it said, over 8, belonged to customers and suppliers, while nearly 5, employee accounts were also accessed.

Zeon said it would send an email dated 24 Aug to inform those whose personal upplysning may have been leaked.

Furthermore, as anställda information of employees may have been compromised, Zeon called for ‘caution’ about potential spam or phishing emails.

    What is Zeon Ransomware?

    Zeon ransomware was first observed in late January and is characterized as a low-sophistication and commodity-level ransomware. Ransom notes in Zeon infections prompt victims to visit a TOR-based payment portal. Zeon is the predecessor to Royal ransomware.

    Zeon victims are instructed to pay in XMR or BTC with a fee of 25% in case of the latter. Observed Zeon payloads are Python-based executables packaged via pyInstaller and further obfuscated via pyArmor.
